What is UPF Clothing?Updated 8 months ago
UPF (Ultraviolet Protective Factor) clothing is designed to protect you from UVA and UVB rays.
Sometimes people confuse UPF and SPF but they are not the same thing. SPF is used to measure the level of UV radiation blocked by sunscreen.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much UV radiation (both UVA and UVB) a fabric allows to reach your skin.
UPF clothing is an important part of your wardrobe. UV rays from the sun can lead to skin cancer, severe sunburn, and skin aging. Young babies also can't wear sunscreen and their skin is much more sensitive to the sun.
Any clothing will provide you with some sun protection but not all fabrics offer equal protection. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, a basic white T-shirt has a UPF factor of about 7 which drops as low as 3 when wet! UPF clothing has been specially designed to offer you much more sun protection. All UV Skinz items are certified UPF 50+ to block 98% of the harmful UVA and UVB rays.
